Reed For Congress Lit Piece Arrives In The Mail

I came home today to find campaign literature from Maureen Reed sitting on the counter. This is perhaps the first literature I have received from any candidate in the 2010 cycle. While not mentioning Tarryl Clark by name, Reed makes it clear that she is the only DFL candidate who can defeat Michele Bachmann and makes the claim that Bachmann fears Reed the most.

Her evidence for being the ONLY DFL candidate who can defeat Michele Bachmann rests on two basic claims. First, that she is a political outsider and second, she cannot be accused of raising taxes given that she has never held elected office.

While at the same time trying to out independent Clark, Reed tries to out progressive her by claiming that she is the only candidate who favors a public option in health reform. She also highlights the fact that she was there as a medical volunteer during the I-35W Bridge collapse and there in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina.

I will leave it to others who have been attending district conventions to decide whether any of this information has been convincing delegates or whether Reed has gained any momentum.

Maureen Reed has gained much momentum and has Tarryl Clark supporters worried (and maybe Clark’s campaign?). Reed’s campaign has been organizing, organizing, organizing and it’s paying off with an ever increasing delegate count. Her campaign has been impressive….

The 6th CD convention should be very, very interesting.

The lit piece is good, don’t ya think?

After actually reading the lit piece all the way through I will clarify my thoughts.

First, I have never heard Maureen Reed say that she is for a public option any time I have heard her speak or answer questions. She has always said there are other ways to control health care costs. My bad for not reading the lit piece thoroughly. If the statement in the lit piece stretches the truth in my mind it won't bode well for Reed.

Second, Tarryl Clark understands the complexities of health insurance and the reforms that are needed. She also works in the legislative process every day which is a real plus and can hit the ground running if elected. She has done well for her district and our state.

Third, I want to defeat Michele Bachmann!

Maureen's piece says that she is the only candidate who supports a public option that "completes with insurance companies" and "reduces costs." Maureen knows exactly what she's talking about – she not only understands the complexities of health insurance, but she can explain them. If you have not had the opportunity to hear her speak, check her out on the YouTube candidate forum from Feb. 20.

The one thing Michele Bachmann fears most is inattention.
